For thousands of new iPad 2 owners, this weekend will be all about exploring the second-generation iPad and really seeing what sets the iPad 2 apart from Apple’s original tablet. What better place to start, at least as far as DailyGame readers are concerned, than with a game? And not just any game, but the first iPad 2 game optimized for the platform — Asphalt 6: Adrenaline HD.
Gamers often find themselves in love with pretty pictures, and that’s where Asphalt 6: Adrenaline HD delivers, having been optimized to utilize the iPad 2’s new graphics card and dual-core processor to deliver smoother racing and visual effects than would have been possible on the original iPad. The graphics in Asphalt 6: Adrenaline have also undergone major improvements on the iPad 2, with real-time lighting, shading and reflections on vehicles, as well as on the pavement and the environment.
Additional graphical bells and whistles include motion blur during adrenaline and crash sequences; real time reflections on cars; bump-mapped surface textures; more realistic shadows; cinematic blur effects for boosts and crashes; deeper draw distances; improved particle effects for smoke, collisions and more; and anti aliasing for smoother edges on all 3D objects.
That’s all well and good, but what about the actual gameplay in this first game optimized for the iPad 2? Glad you asked.
Aspphalt 6: Adrenaline HD includes 42 cars and bikes from Ferrari, Lamborghini, Aston Martin, Ducati and other world-class manufacturers, all of which can be taken online to play against friends or used for local multiplayer matches mode for up to six racers. The Street Races that comprise the game’s 11 leagues and 55 events will have players tearing up city streets in Los Angeles, Tokyo and the Bahamas, among other locations, with each location rendered in HD graphics that take full advantage of the Retina display.
With all the cars and diverse tracks, Asphalt 6: Adrenaline HD also lets players tune their vehicles to help them reach their peak performance on any track. Vehicles can even be customized with decals to give them a visual style all their own.
Asphalt 6: Adrenaline HD is available on the App Store immediately for the iPad 2.
