Riga, Latvia – Allwards Laboratory today is pleased to announce Jolly Rummager 1.2 for OS X, an update to its arcade game that was designed as a tribute to the 1983 classic, Digger. The first high-quality resurrection of Digger in the past ten years, the game features full-screen, Retina display graphics, true cartoon animation, and stereo music and sound effects. Players four years of age or older use simple keyboard controls to guide the small green caterpillar, Jolly Rummager, as he digs free form mazes underground, outsmarts the territorial purple Bukas, collects coins and gems, and finds delicious bonus fruits. This update adds ten new levels inspired by Pac the Man X, which are a bit more difficult than previous levels.

According to Wikipedia, “Digger is a Canadian computer game released by Windmill Software in 1983 for the IBM PC. Many features of Digger are similar to those in the arcade games Mr. Do! and Dig Dug. As in those games, the player is placed in an underground maze, and can dig horizontal and vertical tunnels through it. At least one tunnel already exists at the start of play. At various points on the board are emeralds (usually in clusters) and bags of gold. Monsters (initially in the ‘nobbin’ form) appear at the top right-hand corner. If earth is excavated from under a gold bag, then the bag will wobble for a few seconds and then drop; if it falls more than one row, it will break open after falling, releasing gold which can be collected. Bags can also be pushed left or right into vertical paths, with similar results. Falling bags will squash monsters that they fall on, but they will also squash the digger. The digger also has a weapon, which will fire in a straight line, but takes several seconds to recharge (taking longer as the levels go higher).”
Jolly Rummager improves on the original game with stones and bonus fruits added to the game objects and solid walls used in game scenes. Whenever the caterpillar’s antennae go up, he has the ability to launch a fireball, which flies straight through the maze and destroys Bukas. Fireballs, fired with the space key, can also push a stone or pot of gold. Movement up, down, left, and right is achieved with the four arrow keys. In addition to bonus fruits that act as power-ups (apple, banana, grape, pineapple, strawberry, and watermelon), the game has a bonus mode, which is activated when the player eats the battery that appears when 80% of the Bukas are eliminated.
