Even the outlet that created Cyber Monday needs to blow off some steam once in a while, which is apparently what the accountants at Amazon.com are doing this Cyber Monday. How else do you explain discounting Blu-ray movies by 50% or more that could easily sell for full MSRP? Have Amazon’s bean counters finally lost their minds?
Nah. They just know we’re all looking for great Cyber Monday sales, and they know we’ll hit Amazon.com to see what they’ve got cooking. So, why not ensure we buy from Amazon than go elsewhere? And with discounts like this on Blu-ray movies, there’s little reason to shop elsewhere for movies this Cyber Monday.
Amazon’s starting things off strong by offering all three Lord of the Rings movies on Blu-ray for 50% off, Watchmen for 60% off, and Planet Earth: The Complete BBC Series for 65% off. Recent releases such as Avatar are being discounted for Cyber Monday, with the new Avatar Three-Disc Extended Collector’s Edition with BD-Live discounted more than 50% ($24.99 rather than $59.99). And even upcoming Blu-ray releases have been discounted for Cyber Monday, with Inception setting you back 31% less than it normally would on Blu-ray if you pre-order it today.
Maybe you’re more into TV shows on Blu-ray than you are in movies. Amazon’s Cyber Monday sale has you covered there, too. For instance, all three seasons of Mad Men are available on Blu-ray for $13.99 each rather than the normal $49.99.
