Winning a top five placement in the fall New York Codefest contest, Chess Mob is an intriguing twist on the millennium old game of chess. A revolutionary idea on the historic and most revered game of all time, Chess Mob consists of all the same players found in the game of chess, but you play only type of piece at a time. In addition, you can choose an opponent which consists of any one type of chess player. So, you can choose to defend your king with a whole mob of pawns, or a smaller grouping of knights, or a couple less bishops, or a few less rooks, or queens. Likewise, you choose an opponent of all pawns, knights, bishops, rooks, or queens. Which combination do you think will be the strongest and most dominant? Which strategy will work best to checkmate your opponent’s king? For instance, would you prefer a large “mob” of pawns, or an elite mobile team of queens?

What’s cool about Chess Mob is that you only need to know a little bit about chess to play. Knowing the basics of chess will allow you to immediately understand and enjoy Chess Mob. In addition, like the game of chess, there are a number of compelling strategies to test and try as you experiment with different combinations of players. So, you’ll know the rules right away, but you can never exhaust the limitless game strategies, as you try different Chess Mob combinations.
The Chess Mob game idea is the brainchild of Brian Hubbell who resides in Washington State. In his pursuit to launch the Chess Mob game, and in an effort to give back to the well-respected learning institution of Whitworth University, he pursued a working relationship with a team of upper level Computer Science college students. For their final project they developed Chess Mob on both Android and iOS platforms in partnership with Hubbell Games.
Chess Mob was designed and developed with both Android and iOS handheld and tablet devices in mind. In collaboration with Intel, Chess Mob has been optimized for x86 architecture that is used in current and upcoming phones and tablets. Current plans include continuing to develop and improved Chess Mob by the original four Whitworth graduates in order to make it an even more thrilling game.
Chess Mob is a great for some quick fun, or also an exciting venue for elaborate strategic challenge. For example, consider all of the knight combinations that you can develop with thirteen knights vs. the standard knight combinations with only two knights in traditional chess or, for instance, what about the relative strength of 5 queens vs. 6 rooks?
