Toy Story was the industry’s first full-length CG film, so it isn’t surprising to see Disney release the Toy Story trilogy on Blu-ray 3D, a still-fresh technology that’s bound to take over your living room someday. Toy Story has been out on standard Blu-ray for a while, but its 3D appearance presents a whole new take on the Buzz and Woody experience. Ironically, though, it’s not necessarily the 3D effects that stand out most. The new 3D presentation opens with a Pixar logo that’s got depth and rotates, and follows … [Read more...]
G-Force Blu-ray 3D Review
Superhero guinea pigs doesn’t sound like the most intriguing movie, let alone something readers would want to learn more about, so the first time G-Force released on Blu-ray I skipped it entirely. But there Disney went, releasing G-Force on Blu-ray 3D, and suddenly my review ears perked up. “Hmm, it mustn’t be half bad, if it’s getting the Blu-ray 3D treatment,” I thought. Still...superhero guinea pigs? I wasn’t sold. Now that I’ve watched G-Force in 3D, though, I’m pleased to say that it presents some interesting 3D … [Read more...]
DailyGame’s 2011 Holiday Gift Guide
OK, folks, it’s t-minus 10 days and counting until Christmas, so if you’re still rounding-out your shopping list, there’s no time like the present to get cracking on those, err, presents. The year 2011 has seen some great original games, some excellent sequels and laid the groundwork for what promises to be an outstanding 2012. But before we look to the New Year, we’ve got to focus first on the holidays, which naturally brings us to our 2011 Holiday Gift Guide. We realize time is precious at this point, so we’re … [Read more...]
Disney’s Chicken Little Blu-ray 3D Review
Chicken Little was the first movie I saw theatrically in 3D, so watching it at home via Blu-ray 3D was an oddly reminiscent experience. The story -- a young chicken sees the “sky” fall but tries desperately to repress it until all alien Hell breaks loose and he can’t -- does feel a bit dated, but at the time of Chicken Little’s theatrical debut you could overlook that because the technology was so novel. Now the novelty of 3D has worn off to a certain degree, at least in my corner of the world, so the story triteness is … [Read more...]
Bolt Blu-ray 3D Review
Bolt was one of a handful of animated movies I didn’t mind watching more than once. Sure, John Travolta voicing a superhero dog was funny, especially when you consider his owner was voiced by Miley Cyrus, but the narrative itself was decent enough that it warranted a couple of views. As a result, I was intrigued to see Bolt make Disney’s Blu-ray 3D release list this holiday season, because if the movie itself was worth a view, imagine what it would be like in 3D -- especially if the 3D effects were as expertly conceived … [Read more...]
PlayStation 3D Display TV Launches Nov. 13 — The Coolest Thing We Saw at E3
By far the most innovative technology we saw at E3 this year was the 3D Display from Sony, a 3DTV that allows two gamers to play on the same TV screen while seeing completely different images. Sony has insisted that its PlayStation 3D Display is perfect for dorm rooms or small apartments, which is absolutely correct, but having used a Bravia 3DTV for the past year for Blu-ray 3D and 3D game review purposes, I can tell you without question that the 3D Display -- which goes on sale Nov. 13 -- could very well be what it … [Read more...]

Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides Blu-ray 3D Review
Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides needed to prove something when it released this summer, and prove something it did: the film grossed more than $1 billion worldwide. What it needed to prove wasn’t the franchise’s status as a cash cow, nor Johnny Depp’s ability to make being a thieving drunk look so fun. No, what Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides needed to prove was that the abomination of At World’s End was simply a fluke, a bad movie that tarnished an otherwise awesome franchise. Pirates of the … [Read more...]
Green Lantern Blu-ray 3D Review
I’d heard the jokes about Green Lantern, that watching the movie was merely an excuse to laugh at Ryan Reynolds after his breakup with Scarlett Johansson. I had no attachment to the comics either, meaning my interest would only be piqued by a great theatrical preview and good word of mouth. Well, Green Lantern came and went, so apparently my line of thinking wasn’t alone. Now Green Lantern has appeared on Blu-ray 3D, giving those who missed it theatrically a chance to see Green Lantern in its 3D glory on the small … [Read more...]
