I first saw Star Trek: The Video Game two E3s ago, when a 30-miunte demo packed every session in the behind-closed-doors meeting room. Two years ago it was a graphical powerhouse, showed compelling cooperative gameplay between Kirk and Spock, and seemed utterly epic in its scale. Twenty-four months later, the only way to explain the final product is to borrow a page from JJ Abrams’ first Star Trek movie: a crazy wormhole changed the course of history. What should have been a can’t-miss complement to Star Trek: Into … [Read more...]
Star Trek: The Video Game Boldy Goes to Retail
So there you are, wondering how on Earth (or off it) you're going to bear the wait for the Star Trek: Into Darkness movie, when all of a sudden Namco Bandai releases Star Trek: The Video Game. Yes, your prayers (and ours) have been answered. Star Trek: The Video Game takes place between the events of the first JJ Abrams film and the upcoming sequel, and it marks the first time gamers can play as Kirk or Spock. Oh, and did I mention it's a co-op game? Yes, that's sweet. Playing as Kirk and Spock, players board the … [Read more...]
Star Trek: The Video Game Getting New Vulcans
We've (gleefully) reported in the past that Star Trek: The Video Game is getting the Gorn as an in-game enemy race, and today we have news that the Vulcans will be an ally. This news about Vulcans is a tad surprising, considering the Vulcan home planet was destroyed during the first "reboot" movie. Star Trek: The Video Game, which is slated to ship on April 23 for Xbox 360 and PS3, supposedly takes place after the events of J.J. Abram’s 2009 Star Trek and before this May's sequel. So, while not illogical, the … [Read more...]
Star Trek Videogame Getting The Gorn as Enemies
One of the most compelling games of E3 2011 was Star Trek, the first co-op game featuring Kirk and Spock as playable characters, and based on J.J. Abrams' new Star Trek films. This year at E3, the "geek cred" has skyrocketed, as Paramount and Konami have unveiled that The Gorn, the fabled lizard-like race from the original TV series, is going to be an enemy in the Star Trek videogame. In fact, the entire co-op game is based on a standalone storyline in which Kirk and Spock have to work together to stop the Gorn from … [Read more...]
Star Trek: The Next Generation – The Next Level Blu-ray Review
When Star Trek: The Original Series made its remastered way to Blu-ray Disc a few years back, the knowledge that the video had been overhauled and the audio remastered made thousands of franchise diehards cry foul. How could Gene Roddenberry’s titular sci-fi series be tinkered with? Was Paramount going all George Lucas on the Star Trek franchise? Truth be told, the remastering was well worth it, and for series stalwarts the original versions still existed on the disc. Fast-forward to 2012, and Star Trek: The Next … [Read more...]
Star Trek: The Next Generation Coming to Blu-ray; “The Next Level” Debuts in January
Many moons ago, Star Trek: The Original Series was remastered and released on Blu-ray Disc to mixed reviews, although the only debate on my end when I reviewed Season One was whether to give it a 9.5 or 10. In 2012, CBS Home Entertainment will start releasing remastered versions of Star Trek: The Next Generation on Blu-ray Disc, and I've got to admit, I can't wait. Things kick off on January 31, when Star Trek: The Next Generation – The Next Level ships to retail as a sort of "teaser" of things to come. The complete … [Read more...]
Co-Op Star Trek Game Unveiled for Xbox 360, PS3; Play as Kirk, Spock
From the "OMG this could be sweet!" desk comes a pre-E3 unveiling of a co-op Star Trek game for Xbox 360 and PS3 that will let gamers play as Kirk and Spock. The game, which will ship in the summer of 2012, will have an original story that continues the adventure from J.J. Abrams' 2009 feature film "Star Trek." Star Trek for Xbox 360 and PS3 has "action-packed combat" in which Kirk and Spock must work together to stop a legendary enemy race bent on conquering the galaxy. Star Trek features an original story by God of … [Read more...]
