PlayStation 3 owners are going to be rumbling later this week, as Sony today announced that the DUALSHOCK 3 wireless controller will soon ship to stores. The controllers will retail for $54.99 each.
The DUALSHOCK 3 will essentially replace the PS3’s current Sixaxis controller, which offers motion-sensitivity but no rumble feature. The DUALSHOCK 3 offers both features.
The DUALSHOCK 3 will be compatible with all future PS3 titles, including Gran Turismo 5 Prologue, which launches in two weeks in North America. DUALSHOCK 3 will also bring the rumble feature to a lineup of 27 existing PS3 titles (list below) as well as compatible PS1 classics already available.
Some titles may require a software update, and users will be prompted to download any updates upon starting the specific games.
In June, a limited-edition PS3 bundle including Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, an 80GB PS3 system and one DUALSHOCK 3 controller will be available for $499.99.
