The company that brought gamers Guitar Hero and ushered in the rhythm/music genre is spinning in a new direction — DJ’ing — with DJ Hero set to release later this year with a special turntable peripheral and music licensed by artists in multiple genres. But today, Activision one-upped itself by unveiling a special edition of DJ Hero for the PS3 and Xbox 360 that will have a souped-up version of the turntable and feature unique tracks from two of hip-hop’s biggest acts.
ay-Z and Eminem will contribute some of their popular songs to DJ Hero and will collaborate on a special branded edition of the game that will include an advanced version of the game’s turntable controller, a metal traveling case that transforms into a performance-ready DJ stand, and two exclusive CD compilations featuring greatest hits and new mixes from each artist.
In addition, both Jay-Z and Eminem will provide downloadable content later this year via PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Marketplace.
DJ Hero lets players scratch songs using a new turntable controller that includes traditional DJ tools such as a fully rotating turntable, sample buttons, an effects dial and a crossfader. In the game, players must master various DJ techniques as they play along to visual cues for scratching, blending, crossfading and sampling. Would-be DJs can also add a variety of effects, samples and scratches on their own.
Two DJs can battle competitively or have a player join in to emcee over any track in the game using a USB microphone. DJ Hero will also enable DJ-guitar exclusive mixes played with a turntable controller and Guitar Hero guitar controller.
An exact release date and pricing information for DJ Hero have not been announced.
