A free demo of the third-person shooter Spec Ops: The Line is now available on Xbox Live and the PlayStation Network. The Xbox 360 version of the demo is only available for Xbox Live Gold members today but will be available for all Xbox Live on May 15. The full version of Spec Ops: The Line will ship on June 29 for all platforms (Xbox 360, PS3 and PC).
The Spec Ops: The Line single-player campaign takes place in Dubai after a series of sandstorms have cut the city off from the rest of the world. Playing as Captain Martin Walker, gamers add to the city’s destruction as they search for Colonel John Konrad and his missing battalion, The Damned 33rd. The demo includes portions of two early chapters of this story.
The squad-based action in Spec Ops: The Line is highlighted by a squad-command system that allows players to tactfully take out insurgents. Gamers will use multiple types of weapons and explosives, even using sand as a weapon to strategically bury enemies in their path.
In addition to the single-player campaign, Spec Ops: The Line features a class-based multiplayer mode. Multiplayer features squad-based games in which players must use their sand-filled surroundings to thwart their enemies. Dynamic weather adds a twist, however, as the environment can quickly turn from advantageous to treacherous with the onset of sandstorms that impact visibility, team communication and weapon handling.
