One of the biggest partnerships Sony promoted at E3 was its deal with Bungie — yeah, that Bungie, of Halo fame, formerly owned by Microsoft — and its upcoming sci-fi shooter Destiny. Amid all the PS4 launch hubbub, a little news may have been missed by some that reinforced that E3 arrangement: the Destiny beta is coming first to PS4 and PS3.
Fans who pre-order Destiny at participating retailers will receive their Destiny Beta redemption code — while supplies last. You can see a list of participating retailers at this web page. After pre-ordering Destiny at one of those participating retailers, players will need to visit the Bungie beta site and follow the instructions on the page to secure their spot in the Destiny beta.
The required nine-digit entry code will be printed on the pre=order receipt or on a flyer distributed at time of purchase. Alternatively, it may be sent via email through their respective retail rewards program.
Fans who pre-ordered before Oct. 1 and qualify for this offer are automatically entered into the Beta and will receive their entry code from their retailer via email.
The Destiny beta will include a diverse sampling of activities from the full game, although it’s unclear whether it will include any Campaign elements. More than likely, the Destiny beta will only include multiplayer maps, modes and functionality, as is traditionally the case with high-profile games like this and particularly ones from Bungie.
The Destiny beta will begin in 2014 on all four announced platforms: PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One and Xbox 360. It will launch first on PS4 and PS3, but just how long that timed exclusive will last has not yet been announced.
