While prospective PS4 owners are excited about the PS4 Black Friday 2014 deals, gamers who already own a PlayStation 4 are more excited about what comes less than one week later. That’s when the PlayStation Plus December 2014 free games go live on the PSN Store.
Sony broke tradition in announcing the PlayStation Plus December 2014 free games for PS4. Normally the company doesn’t divulge info about the free PS Plus games until a few days before they go live. This time, the company announced what PlayStation Plus subscribers will get in December 2014 well in advance.
The PlayStation Plus December 2014 free games for PS4 owners are Injustice: Gods Among Us Ultimate Edition and Secret Ponchos. Including the latter game in the PlayStation Plus December 2014 free games lineup is especially interesting, as Microsoft’s big “leaked” news this week was that Secret Ponchos is coming to Xbox One.
Funny thing how hardware manufacturers often know what the competition is doing and come up with promotions to one-up their news. Clearly getting Secret Ponchos as part of the PlayStation Plus December 2014 free games roster on PS4 is better than having to pay for it on Xbox One.
It’s also interesting to see the PS Plus December 2014 lineup include two high-ish profile launch titles. For the past four months or more, Sony has announced an indie game will be released free for PS Plus members day-and-date with its commercial availability for non-PlayStation Plus subscribers. There is no new indie game in the PlayStation Plus December 2014 free games lineup, though with the holidays approaching Sony could very well spring one on PS4 owners as a gift.
Sony typically announces six PS Plus free games each month, two for each platform (PS4, PS3 and PS Vita). Some months there are actually more than two free games for a system, depending on the cross-buy functionality of each. With that in mind, Sony has not yet announced the PlayStation Plus December 2014 free games for PS3 or PS Vita, so Injustice: Gods Among Us Ultimate Edition and Secret Ponchos may not be the only free PS Plus games that we see for PS4 in December 2014.
We’ll have to wait until next week to find out whether that’s the case. That’s when Sony will announce the PlayStation Plus December 2014 free games for PS3 and PS Vita.
