The Beatles are getting their own version of Rock Band, MTV Games and Apple Corps announced today (Apple Corps owns The Beatles music). The Beatles getting their own version of Rock Band had been rumored since early Wednesday morning, as MTV started alerting the media to a conference call it was holding this morning.
Rock Band getting a special version featuring The Beatles follows in Guitar Hero’s footsteps, as that franchise this past summer released Guitar Hero: Aerosmith, which featured solely Aerosmith music.
Rock Band: The Beatles — which is what we’re calling it, not the game’s official name — will feature music from The Beatles exclusively. This is the first time The Beatles music will appear in an interactive video game format.
Early indications are that Rock Band: The Beatles will trace The Beatles’ musical progression and songs in a chronological history, as it will “be an unprecedented, experiential progression through and celebration of the music and artistry of The Beatles.”
The game is being created with input from Sir Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, along with Yoko Ono Lennon and Olivia Harrison. Giles Martin, co-producer of The Beatles LOVE project, is also involved as Music Producer for the game.
Additional specific details such as availability, platforms and pricing have not yet been announced. Presumably, the Rock Band Beatles game will appear on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Nintendo Wii, similar to Rock Band and Rock Band 2.
