2K’s upcoming shooter Borderlands, an open-world role-playing shooter (yes, that’s a lot of clooged-together genres), will ship to retail stores on October 20 for the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC, 2K and Gearbox Software have announced. It will ship October 23 internationally.
Our time with Borderlands at E3 2008 left us very impressed, and that’s been more than a year ago. Imagine the polish, then, that’s been put into the game’s blend of FPS combat, co-op gameplay and character progression. Borderlands allows players to freely join or leave each other’s games at any time. Most impressive, though, is its weapons system, which generates weapons on the fly from a “library” of possible parts, bringing the total weapon count in the game somewhere in the neighborhood of half a million.
Yes, that’s a lot of guns.
