Microsoft has been very aggressive with its Black Friday 2014 deals for Xbox One. The Xbox 360 has seen a smattering of Black Friday deals, but as the “last-gen” system it’s not gotten nearly the number of discounts as Xbox One.
With so many options out there this year, we’ve received several inquires about who has the best Black Friday 2014 deals for Xbox One, and what those discounts and bundles are. Rather than send a slew of individual emails, we’ve assembled below an overview of the Black Friday 2014 deals for Xbox One as they stand today.
Microsoft in October announced special holiday Xbox One price drop that brought the console down by $50. Since the discount only runs until January 3, 2015, many Xbox fans thought the price drop was Microsoft’s big Black Friday 2014 deal, just extended for a two-month window.
That’s not the case at all. Microsoft has in fact announced a slew of true Black Friday 2014 deals for Xbox One, meaning they’re only available this weekend. In addition, several retailers are offering specials above and beyond Microsoft’s first-party discounts.
Microsoft itself has said that from Thanksgiving to “Cyber Monday” (Nov. 27 to Dec. 1), all Xbox One consoles, including special edition bundles Xbox One Assassin’s Creed Unity Bundle and Xbox One Limited Edition Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare Bundle, will be available for $329 in the United States. The special Black Friday 2014 deal brings the XBox One price down by an additional $20.
In the spirit of Cyber Monday, Microsoft’s Black Friday 2014 deals for Xbox One will only be available online. So, you’ll want to head over to this page on Amazon to get them. That Amazon link will also offer the special pricing all through Thanksgiving weekend, so it’s not like you have to wait for Monday to get the discount.
Starting today, two full days before Black Friday 2014, Microsoft has also begun offering up to 40% off certain Xbox One games through the Xbox Store. Among the discounted games are Forza Motorsport 5 and Diablo 3: Reaper of Souls – Ultimate Evil Edition.
So what about the Black Friday 2014 deals for Xbox One outside of Microsoft Stores? Don’t worry, there are a ton, though most of them echo Microsoft’s own sales pricing.
Not surprisingly, the Walmart Black Friday 2014 deals for Xbox One are probably the best. As with Microsoft and other retailers, Walmart is offering a $329 Assassin’s Creed Unity bundle. The retailer also has an $329 Xbox One bundle that includes Halo: The Master Chief Collection and a $30 Walmart gift card. That option is bound to sell out the fastest, as Walmart is only offering a “one hour guarantee on Nov. 27” (Thanksgiving), so it may not even be available by the time Black Friday 2014 officially starts at midnight.
Best Buy is also offering the Xbox One Assassin’s Creed Unity bundle for $329, as well as an Xbox One Assassin’s Creed Unity bundle with Kinect for $429. That doesn’t seem like a big Black Friday 2014 deal until you consider that the Kinect version also includes a free controller. That’s normally not cheap hardware, so it’s a nice bonus.
Both GameStop and Toys R Us are also offering the Xbox One Assassin’s Creed Unity bundle for $329 during the Black Friday 2014 shopping weekend. As of press time they don’t have a sale price for the Kinect version as Best Buy does, nor do either of them offer any special deal such as a free controller or bonus game. It’s surprising to see both of those retailers lagging behind in that regard, though they may be pinning their hopes on individual games and/or PS4 Black Friday 2014 sales.
Target has some slightly better Black Friday 2014 deals for Xbox One, though it requires that you want to shop at Target in the future. Target’s deal for the $329 Xbox One Assassin’s Creed Unity bundle includes a $50 Target gift card.
On the games front, Black Friday 2014 will see a special set of Xbox Live Gold-exclusive deals including Madden NFL 15 and Titanfall. Neither Microsoft nor EA has shared what those discounts will be, so we’ll have to wait until the day after Thanksgiving to find out.
If you aren’t an XBL Gold member, you won’t be left out in the cold. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will be available from Microsoft Stores for 60% off (remember when that wasn’t even supposed to be appearing on Xbox One?), UFC will be on sale for 67% off, and Angry Birds Star Wars will be available for 75% off. (Read our Angry Birds Star Wars review.)
