History does have a tendency to repeat itself, what was once old is new again. Leggings, velour, disco - it's all been around before and has come back with a vengeance at some point or another. Hell, even ancients like Duke Nukem are attempting to become relevant again, so why not everyone's favorite trash talking game show? Developer Jellyvision has teamed up with THQ to publish a brand new You Don't Know Jack for the modern audience, complete with running commentary and put downs courtesy of fan favorite host, Cookie … [Read more...]
Two Worlds II Review
Is it bad to say that I skipped out on Two Worlds when it was originally released? It was panned by almost everyone I know which left me little reason to sit back and play it - given that time is a precious commodity. But when the sequel started garnering some headlines well before release, my interest was piqued enough to take a look and quite honestly I'm glad I did. Two Worlds II picks up after the events of the first game, but all you really need to know is that you and your sister Kyra were captured and are … [Read more...]
LittleBigPlanet 2 Review
LittleBigPlanet is a title that's more than just the sum of its parts, it's something that opened a new world of creativity to gamers removing the boundaries of simple tracks or self contained levels. Literally millions of levels were created by gamers, some good, some excellent and a slew of mediocre ones emerged - and people started wondering what could happen with the sequel. Well, that time is upon us and Media Molecule has delivered something that exceeds expectations of gamers worldwide. No longer are you … [Read more...]
Zeit² Review
Shumps(shoot 'em ups) are a genre that tends to get overlooked when it comes to XBLA releases, if your game isn't called Geometry Wars the chances of big sales numbers are slim and your game will slowly fade into obscurity. I think the issue stems from the fact that western audiences aren't accustomed to the now standard 'Bullet Hell' style of gaming as even highly regarded titles like Ikaruga made barely a ripple on them Marketplace. Brightside Games is hoping to change things a little with Zeit2 thank to some tweaks … [Read more...]
ilomilo Review
The third title in the Games for the Holidays promotion on the Xbox Live Arcade is the fresh new take on co-op puzzle games, ilomilo. In an odd method of promoting this title, gamers were able to gain access to a 'super-secret' demo of the game long before its release and even from within there, they were able to purchase this sickeningly sweet title. The basic premise of the game is that the two hyper-cute characters ilo and milo like to enjoy a daily meeting, the only thing standing in their way is that they tend … [Read more...]
World of Keflings Review
It's like Gulliver's Travels all over again! Developer NinjaBee has revisited it's fun filled fantasy land of Keflings with a brand new release, World of Keflings which is now available as part of the Games for the Holiday's promotion on Xbox Live. For the uninitiated, the Keflings game puts your avatar into the game as a giant among a group of small beings named Keflings. It's up to you to help them solve their problems, like building houses and factories while putting them to work both collecting and processing the … [Read more...]
Donkey Kong Country Returns Review
At E3 2010 the return to Donkey Kong country was announced, and a mere few months later we finally have the new release of Donkey Kong Country Returns in our grubby little primate paws, and let me tell you - Nintendo really knows how to bring a series back. First with the resurgence of Kirby, and now out buddies DK and Diddy Kong make a return to track down their yet again stolen stash of bananas. Nintendo tapped Retro studios to take on the revisit to DKC, and the game has stayed very true to its roots right down to … [Read more...]
Adrenalin Misfits Review
The Xbox Kinect is an advanced piece of hardware, and it doesn't seem as though developers and publishers have fully comprehended what Microsoft's motion-detecting gizmo can do. In some respects it's like Xbox Live all over again: Microsoft came out with a cool product that's just a little bit ahead of its time. At least, that's the vibe you get playing Adrenalin Misfits for Kinect, the first snowboarding-like game for Microsoft's new motion controller. On the surface Adrenalin Misfits performs well enough, but there … [Read more...]
Kung-Fu Live Review
It's strange that it took the release of the Xbox Kinect for someone to release a game on the PS3 which utilizes only the PlayStation Eye camera, but that's exactly what the folks over at Virtual Air Guitar have done with the title, Kung-Fu Live. Unlike all other motion based titles on the PS3, Kung-Fu Live does not require any of the Move controllers, only the PlayStation Eye. However, this is likely detrimental to the game as I am sure that I can't be the only gamer who had issues getting this game to work smoothly. … [Read more...]
Disney Epic Mickey Review
When it comes to video games and Mickey Mouse, the poor guy rarely had a chance to succeed. Moving from weak title to weak title through the years has really put the damper on his career. Enter Warren Spector. The esteemed game designer had the chance to not only take on Mickey Mouse as a topic for an all-new adventure, but he was given the ability to re-introduce a long-forgotten character of Walt Disney's named Oswald the Lucky Rabbit. Oswald was stripped from Walt over a dispute with Universal Pictures, and in a 2006 … [Read more...]
